03/09/10 - Metroid Prime 2: Echoes (Wii).

I still don't get the deal with Dark Samus even now. Still a great addition to the series, harder to navigate thanks to the two dimensions, even if you know where you need to be you have to consider where the nearest portal is and if the environment doesn't change so much to stop you in your tracks. But I can't believe I used to be stuck on that final boss, the first form is a pain, because you have to hit flailing tentacles, that's always frustrating but the rest was a cake walk.

Great stuff, anyway. The postman has just been and it looks like I'm not getting Other M today.. Oh well.

Should I go back and try Prime 2 again DC? I remember not thinking much of it first time I played it.

Spoiler

King Kong (360)
I've had this as long as I've had my 360. I think it was a launch title or pretty close? Looking at it now, you can definitely see it has last gen roots at heart. The graphics look terrible when compared with most 360 games now, and it's so stupidly dark in some sections.

It veered between some cool interesting bits, and sections that were just eye gougingly frustrating. It is missing a lot if stuff we take for granted e.g. Objective hints/markers, damage indicators etc. Playing as Kong and beating the shit out of dinosaurs was pretty fun.

I'd give it Average out of 10, but at least that's one more old game cleared out of the backlog.

If you've not played a Prime game for a while then yeah, it depends what the problem was the first time, though.

I was getting lost a whole lot, the bubble things you have to open to make areas safe sort of killed my enthusiasm for the game I seem to remember. Or something along those lines.

Once you get your first suite, after the first proper boss I think which is pretty early on then you don't have to deal with the bubbles so much.. as for getting lost?.. Yeah, that'll happen.

Spoiler

Haven't updated this for a few weeks... I've been working through some of my 'pile of shame'...

Half-Life 2 [360]
My 2nd play-through (originally completed it on PC back in 2004 at time of release)
I don't think it's aged much at all, and I'd forgotten how fucking long epic it is! (or maybe that's just me?) Still one of my top 10 games of all time!

Dante's Inferno [360]
Great art & concept, pretty decent combat, a couple of fun bosses, a few annoying 'timed puzzles', a shedload of crappy 'swingy-rope' sections and a muthaload of QTEs that got right on my tits...

Halo 3 [360] (Solo on Heroic)
Started a solo playthru on Legendary back in 2008, and got bored with it after a couple of chapters (probably due to 'Co-op'ing most of the game out-of-sequence upon release).
Anyway, I finally decided to go back and finish the last two thirds (on Heroic for quickness), and damn well enjoyed it - much more than H1 or 2... Even 'The Flood' weren't that annoying this time around!

The Darkness [360]
Wasn't sure if I could be bothered with it after the first hour, mainly because of the crappy gun-fights/aiming & irritating loading cutscenes, but I persisted due to a vague interest in the comics. Though it certainly gets better as you progress & 'power up', the highlight, by far, was Mike Patton as the voice of The Darkness. I kept pressing the 'powers' buttons in the subways just to hear him say something awesome! :)

Nope, not just you. It's an awesome game but it does outstay its welcome.
I heard a monkey bit a woman's face off and pulled off her hands - it's true, it was in the news!

Mirror's Edge (iPhone)

That's how the proper game should've been done, no shooting whatsoever.

04/09 - Mirror's Edge

Easily one of the best games I've played on my iPod Touch. It does an excellent job of capturing the freerunning platforming of its bigger brother.

05/09 - Dead Rising 2: Case Zero

Left Still Creek with Katey. I may go back and mess around for a bit, but I don't think I'll be getting the full game when it's released.
